My Intro
Hey there, I'm Olivia Mashiana, a junior in college attending UAA! I'm from a little village on the northwest coast called Unalakeet, but have been living here in Anchorage for about 3 years. I have a 6-month-old son who is starting to love music just as much as my family and I do! Music has been a huge part of my life for a very long time, ever since I can remember. The musical gene must be quite strong. :)
In highschool, I tried a couple differnt instruments, but unfortunetly none that I ever really stuck with. I tried piano, guitar, and clarinet. I remained very involved with music through singing! My family has always been very music-forward; my mom and her siblings even have a little family choir of sorts. As soon as I was old enough to hold a sheet of music, I was initiated into their ensemble. Shortly after, at the beginning of my second-grade year, I began taking vocal lessons with my school music teacher. My life was immediately changed! I started small with singing the national anthem in my hometown at small sporting events, but it only grew from there. Soloing at state level competetions, toured Hawaii singing in a national honor choir, singing the national anthem for state level sporting events, and of course performing for my regular audience at home, the shampoo bottles. Music in general has pretty much been my whole world.
I listen to an insanely well rounded varitey of music from pretty much every decade. Etta James, Elton John, Queen, The Bee Gees, Frank Sinatra, Minnie Ripperton, Colter Wall, Bruce Springsteen, Meatloaf, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix. If I don't stop myself now, the list will go on forever! I wish I had the ability to go back in time and see each and every one of these artists play in concert. I have been to a couple, but not nearly enough. I just love being in an arena full of people who are excited, celebrating, and enjoying the music being played just for you (and 30,000 of your closest friends)! Even though New Year's has come and gone, I think that'll be my New Year's goal. More concerts.
This is the song I wanted to leave you with, the namesake for my blog! The song talks about finding your peace and navigating through life's confusion and chaos. Bye for now.

ReplyDeleteI love that song! Scheduling our next concert expeditiously!
ReplyDeleteThat is an eclectic mix of music. "Horse With No Name" is a 2 chord song. Take up ukulele to accompany your singing and you can play this song in no time.
